About the Tour
Our trip starts in Dhaka, where we’ll pick you up at the airport and take you to a nearby hotel. You’ll have the rest of the day free so you can relax or explore, depending on how you’re feeling.
The next day, we drive from Dhaka to Rajshahi, stopping along the way to visit local sights and bazaars, and to see how people live in different areas. We will see the Jamuna River Bridge, the Royal Palace in Natore, and the Temple Sanctuary in Puthia, which is seen as the crown jewel of Hindu architecture in Bangladesh. We stay overnight in a hotel in Rajshahi.
On the following day, we travel to Porsha in Naogaon District. You have the chance to spend time in a village, stay in a local house, and enjoy a peaceful rural lifestyle. Here, you will find mud houses, clay ovens, and evenings lit by small lamps. You can watch farmers use bulls to harvest their fields, surrounded by green crops. The next morning, we head to the Choto Sona Masjid (Small Golden Mosque), built between 1493 and 1519 under Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah. We also visit the ancient capital city of Gauda, then cross a sandbank of the Padma (Ganges) River to explore remote tribal villages on an island that lies partly in India and partly in Bangladesh. Afterward, we return to Rajshahi for the night.
Next, we explore more archaeological wonders, including Somapura Mahavihara, a famous Buddhist monastery that became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. Built in the 8th century AD during the reign of King Dharmapala of the Pala Dynasty, it holds great cultural importance. On the way, we stop at Kusumba Mosque, built between 1558 and 1559, then visit Mohasthanghar, the oldest archaeological site in the country. We spend the night in Bogra. Early the next day, we drive to Rangpur to visit a centuries-old carpet workshop and the Tajhat Palace, then continue to Dinajpur for an overnight stay.
On day seven, we see a school in Dinajpur made from mud and bamboo by German architects. This school won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2007. We also visit more beautiful temples. On next day we will either take you to the airport or assist with forward travel plans.
